What size clothing does your toddler wear?
My son is 14 months old (15 months May 2nd) He’s currently 33 inches and weighs 27.1. He’s wearing about a 2T in everything. Shorts he can’t wear a 2t if they don’t have the elastic to tighten them so those are 18 months but his shirts have to be 24 months or 2T which I know isn’t a big difference.
Guessing he will be wearing around a 3T to 4T for Fall/Winter?

My daughter turned 2 in Jan. and wears a 3T is most everything- has worn a few sizes bigger than her age since before she was a year. She’s almost 36″ and 30 lbs.
My son will be 3 next month and he just went into 3T clothes top and bottom. If he was wearing 2T this last fall and winter I would guess he would be in 3T by next year but it is just a guess because his growth could pick up between now and then or it could slow. You never really know until it is time.
My son just turned 4 and he wears a 5T shirt, 4T pants (with adjustable waist – elastic is still too loose), and 2T shorts: He’s super skinny, but he’s tall and usually wore a size up from what he was in age (2T at 20 months, 3T when he was 2, etc.), but I had to be careful because buying small meant pants were floods on him but even elastic waists in his side were too large and his pants would droop.
My daughter just turned 2, she has been in 12-18 month clothes forever. She’s very short and has especially short legs, so 24 month pants are way too long. She wears a lot of swing shirts (that fit like little shorty dresses) and capri leggings. Even dresses that are designed to be above the knee length are mid-calf on her. I thought she was progressing right on (wearing the correct size for her age) until she hit 14months and she’s been in 12-18 months ever since.
Basically, there’s not a good way of knowing for sure and kids’ body types change dramatically when they start running around and thin out. If you live in a place where the temperature is fairly constant, then I’d say go ahead and buy or if it’s something that you’re sure he’ll need at any size (jeans work from fall through spring), then shop ahead of time. I’m lucky to live in California where the entire year is devoid of seasons and fairly mild, but my daughter was wearing fall colors in the spring because she stopped growing taller at the same rate and thinned out. For boys, spring and fall colors matter less, but I would say it depends on what the weather is like where you live.
My son will turn 2 in a month and wears anything from 2T to 3T. He has always worn clothes ahead of his age. I think the sizes children’s clothes manufacturers make must be awfully conservative, because he’s not a big kid by any means. They also don’t seem to be consistent from manufacturer to manufacturer.
my 2 year olds wear 2t and 3t 3 year old 4t 4 year old 4t+5t
My 18 month old is in 12-18 month clothing.
My daughter is almost 2 1/2 and she is 38″ and 35 lbs., she went to a 3t a couple of months ago, I think she will be in this size awhile, she went through a big spurt and now seems to finally have stayed put.
My son just turned two the beginning of the month and he’s in 24 months/2T for now. I have to buy the adjustable waist shorts in the 2T, though. He needs them for the length but really needs an 18 month in the waist.
My 2 year 8mo wears mostly 2T. I recently bought him some 18mo shorts though (the 2T ones are usually just to big around the waist). He is kind of short though, and average weight for his height. He also has some onesies and stuff that’s 18mo that he still can wear (but some other things that he can’t).
For T-shirts, he needs 4T or bigger in order to get them over his head (his head is huge). So, I try to only buy him shirts that have extra big openings with buttons or such, because a 4T shirt is pretty much like a dress on him. I can squeeze a 3T over his head if I really want to, but it’s hard and he hates it.
Your son probably will not be wearing 3T or bigger by Fall/Winter. He probably just recently went through a growth spurt and will not grow that much over summer. Unless you and your spouse are really tall, in which case he likely would be really big for his age and he might wear 3T. I seriously doubt 4T though – the difference in size is quite significant.
The only exception to that is sleepers. My son has been wearing a 3T sleeper since Fall. He still barely fit into his 24mo sleeper, but it gets pretty cold in our house when it freezes, so sometimes I want some extra clothes on him, and that was not possible anymore with the 24mo sleeper. His 3T sleeper fits really well now, even though any 3T pants or sweaters are way too big on him still. I don’t know what’s up with that. So, in my experience, sleepers need to be a full size bigger than regular clothes.
Just keep in mind they usually slow down a little with the growing when they turn about 2 . My son was wearing 3T at 18 mos which was in Sept 08….so for that following christmas I asked people to get him 4t size clothes because i assumed that by that January or soon after he’d easily fit into them and they would last him for the 09′ year….not so much he continued to fit 3T until he was almost 3 and now 2 yrs later finally fits into those clothes people bought.from xmas 08′
my son will be 4 years old in july he wear 5t shirt and 4t short.
